Digitised documents good practices: All things IIIF at the University of Edinburgh
This is the fourth workshop of the digitised document series.
The International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF) is a community-led approach to standardised image delivery. Its aims are to produce uniform, rich access to media wherever it is hosted; to produce APIs that support interoperability, and to produce tools that improve the user experience around viewing, comparing, manipulating, and annotating images.
The Library and University Collections department at the University of Edinburgh have embraced IIIF, and are heavily invested in its use, as consortium members. In this workshop, Scott Renton will give an overview of the IIIF concepts, and Edinburgh's deployment and progress in the field, from simple image manipulation and deep zoom to search and annotation. There will be opportunities to get hands-on with the technology and to try things out for yourself.
The following topics will be covered:
-
IIIF Overview
-
Working with digitised data (Image and Presentation APIs)
-
Search API and OCR
This is an intermediate-level workshop. Intermediate sessions explore specific aspects of the method (libraries, tools etc.) and offer a more in-depth understanding of the workshop topics. Some previous knowledge of digitised documents is required to be able to follow the content. If you want to familiarise yourself with the basics of working with digitised documents you can attend our Introduction to Digitised Document Workshop
Those who have registered to take part will receive an email with full details on how to join us for this workshop.
