Autumn 2021 Training Programme: Registrations Open
We are pleased to announce the CDCS Training Programme for Autumn 2021.
As part of CDCS activities, the regular training programme aims to support researchers across the College of Humanities and Social Sciences in developing applied digital skills. Our training offer ranges from introductory meetings on digital methods to hands-on classes on text analysis and 3D printing.
Explore the full programme of training events for the autumn semester.
Our standard training events are workshops and courses: these events can be once-off sessions, or up to 6 weekly sessions. All our workshops and courses are hands-on events so they will often require some preparation (installation of software, downloading of teaching material, etc.)
We also offer other types of training and support for the CAHSS researchers:
-
Silent Disco events. These are asynchronous learning sessions, where attendees will be pointed to tutorial content that they can work through at their own pace. An instructor will be available via Microsoft Teams chat to help with issues and further questions on the topic/training.
-
Digital Method of the month meetings. These are one-hour sessions where we discuss the practicalities of a specific methods. This is a great space to learn about new methods and find out about their associated benefits and pitfalls, to help you figure out if this method is suitable for your own research project
-
Data Surgery meetings. These meetings are aimed at researchers who are in the process of applying digital and data-driven methods to their research, and are looking for some advice and support from fellow researchers.
The training programme offers sessions with varied levels of experience required, to help researchers at any stage of familiarity with digital methods.
If you are looking to incorporate coding into your research this semester, you can find 13 events focusing on different aspects of using either python or R for research. These events range from introductory Digital Method of the Month sessions on data visualisation and text analysis, to an advanced training on using R to process geospatial data.
