Funding Enables Development of Invergordon Tourism Experience

Teea Palo of the University of Edinburgh Business School, a member of the CDCS Tourism, Technology & Data research cluster, is leading a project that has recently been awarded funding to develop a tourism experience for Invergordon, a scenic town located in the Scottish Highlands.

The development project involves an academic team with expertise in visitor profiling, community engagement and place branding, and key stakeholders including the Port of Cromarty Forth and Invergordon Naval Museum and Heritage Centre. The project was matched by Interface to University of Edinburgh researchers and is funded by an Innovation Voucher.

The project team aims to co-design a template for the development of a state-of-the-art tourism offering for Invergordon, supported by development of a unique visitor profile. This will in turn inform the development of a community toolkit that can guide local stakeholders to translate Invergordon’s brand story into physical and digital spaces, attracting community and visitor engagement.

With the support of this project, it is intended that the Invergordon community will not only be able to improve its tourism offering but will also contribute to the socio-economic development of the town. Boosting the local Invergordon economy will be particularly important in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects on the Scottish tourism industry.
