Fintech Research Cluster
We are delighted to be launching our second research cluster today. FinTech, led by Dr Gbenga Ibikunle of the University of Edinburgh Business School and supported by the Edinburgh Futures Institute, brings together a wide range of researchers whose work explores how new technologies impact on financial services and markets.
In recent decades technological innovations have significantly changed how we manage money, how financial services are delivered, and how financial markets operate. As these new platforms and practices take shape, critical questions arise about the social, political and economic impact of new financial technologies and regulations. Innovations in FinTech can help address societal challenges such as problem debt, inequality, and climate change. But they also present new and important ethical, legal and security challenges.
With study programmes in place, and a conference later this year, researchers in the FinTech cluster focus on developing collaborative interdisciplinary research to develop innovative FinTech-enabled solutions, as well as address societal challenges and explore the potential benefits of new business models linked to the delivery of financial services.
