We're delighted to be publishing the Centre for Data, Culture & Society's third Annual Report today, outlining our activities and achievements in academic year 2021/22.

We are proud to showcase the breadth and diversity of research activities across our community and to celebrate the work that has been done against the backdrop of challenging global contexts.

When CDCS as launched in 2019, we had a set of objectives that we were aiming to achieve in our first three years.  We have ended up doing far more than we had envisaged possible, and we are very grateful to those colleagues who have worked with us to exceed expectations: our Core Team of academics, who help us to ensure our work has relevance across the College; our Research Cluster Leads, who expand our reach and help us support areas of strategic interest; our PhD community, who contribute to the life of the centre in the many ways; the members of our Stakeholder Forum, who help us to build connections and networks; and our professional colleagues across CAHSS and Information Services, who support our work in many varied ways.

This year has seen the launch of our new Digital Research Prizes, which we set up to recognise the brilliant achievements of our community.  We were delighted to see such a wide range of projects nominated, a testament to the growing excellence of data-led research across CAHSS.  The prizes will be awarded this evening, at a reception in the University's InSpace venue, and will be published in our Annual Report shortly after they are announced.

In the last year, CDCS has begun working more closely with the Edinburgh Futures Institute. We look forward to an exciting new phase over the next few years, as we grow in parallel with EFI, moving into the new Quartermile building next year, and exploring the changes opportunities this will bring.
