Creative Informatics

Creative Informatics is a £10 million research and development partnership for the creative industries. The initiative, directed by Professor Chris Speed of the University of Edinburgh, will create an environment for new forms of creative industry that use data from a range of organisations, to encourage innovation across the sector. The award is part of an £80 million nationwide creative industries initiative from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) – the largest-ever single investment in the sector – with further financial support provided by the Scottish Funding Council and the City Region Deal Data Driven Innovation initiative.
The Creative Informatics Partnership is one of nine AHRC clusters across the UK, designed to encourage collaboration between creative industries and universities. Extending the capability of creatives to apply the next generation of data-driven innovation technologies will require a unique collaborative framework of research and development with academia, industry and cultural partners.
The Creative Informatics R&D Partnership has the University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Napier University, Creative Edinburgh and CodeBase as core partners. Increasing data literacy and the ability to design with data are key objectives. Creative Informatics will also build new partnerships to co-create education, research, business development and policy work as a shared endeavour.
