CDCS PhD affiliate Albert Sharra’s article ‘Digital First’ as a Coping Measure for Malawi’s Print Newspapers has been published by Palgrave Macmillan. The article investigates whether and how the decision by Malawi’s leading print newspapers to adopt the digital first strategy of news reporting has helped the news organizations to remain relevant and competitive in the fast-paced digital world.
The larger work titled New Journalism Ecologies in East and Southern Africa: Innovations, Participatory and Newsmaking Cultures presents case studies of news media employing social media into their news production practices. It links social media use to journalistic practices and news production processes in the digital age of the Global South. The chapters look critically at seminal cases of start-up news media whose content is informed by trends in social media, ethical considerations and participatory cultures spurred by the wide use of social media.
We would like to extend our congratulations to Albert on his well-deserved success!
