George Oates

 

George is a world-renowned, award-winning software designer. She has worked online since 1996, leading design at Flickr and Internet Archive, both of which are used by millions of people and hold billions of digital objects. Her work as Design Director at Stamen contributed to a US National Design Award awarded in 2017. Her practice has always been about The Humans and she prides herself on her ability to design legible complex systems. She is currently working with the University of Edinburgh on a project focused on Flickr Commons program and associated studies of historic photography description, designing value for the long term, and how to structure a 21st Century Commons equitably and well.
